HOW TO BECOME A TURKISH CITIZEN?
Transition to nationality means that a person who does not have a citizenship bond with the Republic of Turkey acquires the legal status of Turkish citizenship.
There are various ways for foreigners who want to acquire Turkish citizenship.
1.GENERAL CONDİTİONS
According to Turkish law, the first condition for a foreigner to become a Turkish citizen is that the foreigner is legally mature in his own country or, if he is stateless, according to the Turkish Civil Code. Another condition is to have resided in Turkey for five consecutive years, backwards from the date of application for citizenship. The third condition is that the foreigner who wants to transfer to Turkish citizenship decides to settle in Turkey; Acquiring real estate in Turkey, investing, establishing a business, moving the trade and business center to Turkey, obtaining a work permit and confirming with similar situations, or marrying a Turkish citizen and applying as a family, having previously acquired Turkish citizenship have a mother, father, sibling or child or complete his/her education in Turkey.
In addition, the absence of a disease that poses a danger to general health for Turkish citizenship is another condition regulated for citizenship. The individual who will acquire Turkish citizenship must not have bad habits that are not welcomed by the Turkish society or are contrary to the values of the Turkish society. The individual who will transfer to Turkish citizenship must have a profession and income that will provide for himself and his family in Turkey.
It is obligatory for the foreigner who requests Turkish citizenship to not be in a situation that would constitute an obstacle in terms of national security and public order determined by Turkish laws.
How Much Money Do You Need to Become a Turkish Citizen?
One of the most preferred methods to become a Turkish citizen is undoubtedly to acquire real estate in Turkey. In this way, many people gained Turkish citizenship. According to Turkish laws, foreigners who purchase houses, land and other real estate in a minimum amount of 400,000 USD or foreign currency equivalent to this amount, provided that they are not sold for three years, or who make a notarized contract for the purchase of a house, land and similar real estate, will be able to acquire citizenship after completing the application procedures specified in the law. In addition, citizenship can be obtained by investing in Turkey. These methods are as follows. According to Turkish laws, a person who makes a fixed capital investment of at least 500,000 USD or a foreign currency equivalent to this amount will also be able to acquire citizenship. Other methods are to invest in employment for at least 50 people, to invest at least 500,000 USD or equivalent in foreign currency in banks operating in Turkey on condition that they hold for three years, to purchase government debt instruments of at least 500,000 USD or equivalent foreign currency for three years, To purchase real estate investment fund participation shares or venture capital investment fund participation shares of at least 500,000 USD or equivalent in foreign currency, provided that they hold at least three years, a contribution amount of at least 500,000 USD or equivalent in foreign currency, the scope of which is the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency. To invest in the private pension system, provided that it is kept in the funds determined by the Company and remains in the system for three years. Persons who buy real estate with the aforementioned price or make the investment in the determined amount in Turkey receive the status of Turkish citizen by the decision of the President after the necessary applications.
3-) Is Turkish Citizenship Possible Through Marriage? How does a foreigner who marries a Turkish acquire Turkish Citizenship?
It is possible to acquire Turkish citizenship through marriage. Many people became Turkish citizens through marriage. Although marrying a Turkish citizen is not sufficient to acquire Turkish citizenship directly, people who have been married to a Turkish citizen for at least three years and still continue to be married can acquire Turkish citizenship. The death of the Turkish citizen spouse after the application date does not constitute any obstacle. According to Turkish laws; A person who has been married to a Turkish individual for at least 3 years will be able to switch to Turkish citizenship if they meet the following conditions.
– Living in the unity of the family,
– Not behaving unbecoming of the marriage union,
– According to the Turkish laws, there will be an obstacle in terms of national security and public order. conditions of absence are sought.
4-) WHERE TO APPLY TO BE A TURKISH CITIZEN ?
Persons who want to become Turkish citizens should apply to the Provincial Directorate of Population and Citizenship in every province in Turkey, and in some cases directly to the Ministry of Interior, or to Turkish Embassies or consulates abroad. Persons who want to become Turkish citizens can apply in person, as well as applications can be made with a special power of attorney. In other words, individuals who will apply for Turkish citizenship can find a lawyer or another officer for this job and apply by giving a power of attorney to these people.
5-) HOW TO APPLY FOR TURKISH CITIZENSHIP ?
Persons who want to become Turkish citizens must first fill out the form given by the Population Directorate and open a file. In this file, there will be documents brought by the person who wants to become a Turkish citizen from his/her own country, residence permit, health report, criminal record, birth certificate, passport photocopy, livelihood certificate, photograph, fee receipt and various documents to be determined by the authorized Directorate. After the file is opened, the Turkish Police Department or the Gendarmerie Command conducts an investigation and writes a report on the person who applies for Turkish citizenship, and fingerprints of the person who wants to become a Turkish citizen are also taken. After these procedures are completed, the person applying for Turkish citizenship should personally attend the meeting called the Citizenship Review Commission meeting. The point to be noted here is that even if an application is made with a power of attorney, it is mandatory to attend this meeting in person. Otherwise, it will not be possible to transfer to Turkish citizenship. If a citizenship application has been made by marriage, both spouses must attend this meeting. After this meeting, the deficiencies of the file are corrected by the authorities, then the opinion of the commission is added and the file is sent to the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship. After the decision made by the directorate is in the file, it is sent to the person applying for Turkish citizenship.
6-) HOW TO GET TURKISH CITIZENSHIP 2022 ?
While the conditions determined in the acquisition of Turkish citizenship do not change according to the years, there is variation according to the years for the citizenship acquired through real estate acquisition or investment. For example, with the decision of the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on May 12, 2022, in order to become a citizen by purchasing real estate, it is necessary to purchase real estate worth at least $400,000. These figures may change every year, and they may change frequently with the decisions of Turkish state officials at some times.
